Permissioned Ledger

A blockchain where only known, vetted organisations can write and read — the model used in supply chains, as opposed to a public chain with anonymous participants.

Why supply chains use it

Throughput is orders of magnitude higher than a public chain, there is no token or gas cost, and commercial data stays within private collections visible only to the parties entitled to it. What is preserved is the property that matters: no single participant can rewrite history.

The honest test

If one organisation owns the data and the others simply trust it, use a database. A ledger earns its complexity only when several parties must write and none can be the sole custodian.
