Bill of Materials (BOM)
The structured list of components, sub-assemblies and quantities needed to make one unit of a product — the master record most other ERP functions depend on.
Why it governs costing too
Job costing, MRP, inventory valuation and quoting all read the BOM. An error there propagates into every one of them, which is why BOM accuracy is the single best predictor of whether an ERP rollout succeeds.
Revisions matter
A BOM must be versioned and effective-dated, so a job that ran in March is costed against the BOM that applied in March, not the current one. Without that, historical costing is fiction.
