The challenge
Audit and deviation investigations required manual searches through 14 years of scanned batch records. A single query could take a quality analyst two days, and 'we could not find it' was not an acceptable answer to a regulator.
What we did
Records were OCR'd and chunked on document structure rather than character count, so tables and signature blocks retrieve intact. Every answer cites the batch number and page, and the system refuses rather than guesses when the records do not contain the answer — the behaviour that made quality assurance willing to sign off on it.
